Eating too much at the holidays is just something that happens. I am trying not to feel so guilty about it, shop and that’s helping and I still need some practice on that one. New Years resolution #4. I’m committed to forgiving myself through everything. Easier said than done, clinic it’s happening, ask all practice. Previous Resolution setting for this coming year #2. Eat only until full, and moderation is key. #3 When I do overindulge in sugar, gluten or anything else that affects me poorly, I cleanse and release, forgive and remember to not do that again!
With the holiday eating frenzy, I’ve been doing a light cleanse simultaneously, as the whole fun is eating with family and tasting all sweetness of the holiday season and I don’t want to miss out on that.
First thing, I start the day with a big glass of lemon water, to flush my liver. Something I was in the practice of for a year is another thing I am going to incorporate – Oil-pulling: before even brushing the teeth or drinking water, take 1 teaspoon of cold pressed organic sesame oil into mouth – do not swallow! Swish and pull through the teeth for about 10-20 minutes. Oil-pulling is an ayurvedic detoxification practice. This practice detoxes not only the mouth but is also known to alleviate many other symptoms including bacterial/fungal overgrowth. I’ll do a whole blog and video on this practice soon…It’s a powerful one!
Then about 1/2 hour after having a big glass of lemon water, I made a big bowl of lightly sauteed greens and ginger and garlic. A light, easily digestible, detoxifying meal. This is a great way to start my day. Before I had my lemon water and my greens, I was sniffling, phlegmy and having a major allergic reaction. My body really doesn’t like too much sugar. I was having symptoms of a hang-over this morning, a sugar hang-over it was!
At night I’m having a green smoothie: water, kale, chard, 1/2 lemon, some berries and a 1/2 a small apple. It’s my after dinner meal, which I didn’t have last night, ooops.
Today, I’m back on track and bringing moderation to my holidays, because I can’t guarantee that I won’t have sugar today…I’m enjoying the balance, although I hope to not over do it like last night.
Last nights desserts were soooooooo….tempting and we have left overs…here I go….
Resolution #1 set for this year is: Create more nourishing relationships in my life.
